Rules and regulations

  1. Summary:
  • The ALTER-NATIVE International Short Film Festival is organized by the Hungarian Democratic Youth Union and it is the oldest international short film festival in Romania.
  • The ALTER-NATIVE International Short Film Festival is an annual event. The 30th edition will be held between 28 September – 02 October 2022, in the city of Targu-Mures, Romania.
  1. Terms of Registration:
  • There are no registration fees for films entered for the festival.
  • Films submitted to the festival must be completed on or after 1 January, 2020.
  • The maximum duration for the films submitted is 30 minutes.
  • There are no genre limitations.
  • Each work requires a separate entry form.
  • Films can only be submitted once. Films submitted to previous editions of the festival are no longer eligible.
  1. Entry Procedures:
  • The entry-form is to be sent online.
  • Please pay extra attention upon completing the entry form to be as per current regulations as the following information will automatically appear on our website once registration is completed: film title, name of the director, country of origin, date of creation, duration and genre.
  • When completing the registration form, a maximum of two screenshots are to be uploaded (no larger than 1 Mb).
  • On the entry-form please provide a URL for the films download along with the password.
  • All films which contain spoken dialogue other than English must have English subtitles. As films are presented in the original language with Romanian and English subtitling as necessary, the films must provide an English dialogue list in a customary electronic format which includes time codes.
  • Final date for submission of applications is 1st of August 2022, 23.59 (Central European Time).
  1. Selections and Competition:
  • After receiving the films, the entries will be judged by the preview jury who will select the films which will be shown at the festival. They also decide whether the films will be screened in the competition program or in additional programs.
  • The result of the selection will be made public on the festival website: alternativeiff.ro
  • in the first half of September. Only those authors will be notified by e-mail whose films have been selected to the competition.
  • The festival does not pay screening fees for films appearing in its program under any circumstances.
  • Screening materials must be HD digital files.
  1. Festival Prizes:
  • The festival prizes are monetary ones and are awarded by an international jury. Prizes are taxable under current Romanian laws.
  • The festival has a single award for a specific category which is the best student film or best first film award. All other awards are given independent of film category.
  1. Promotional Use of Works:

In order to promote the festival, competitors allow the organizer to use the information and images sent for the purpose of creating the festival catalog. The organizer is allowed to make images, video content and other information for broadcasting TV shows dedicated to the festival available for the press. Should a competitor refuse these terms, the festival must be informed in writing of them not consenting.

 

  1. Personal Data Protection Policy:

The ALTER-NATIVE International Short Film Festival deems int extremely important to value the privacy of its guests. Therefore, all personal information such as names and e-mail addresses will be processed according to the REGULATION (EU) 2016/679 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (General Data Protection Regulation).

 

  1. Acceptance of the Regulations:

By submitting an entry form to the Festival, the entrant accepts the terms of the present regulations as stated in this document.
