The leader of this year’s filmmaking workshop is Ádám Breier, director of films such as Lefkovicsék gyászolnak (The Lefkovicses Are Mourning), A báró hazatér (The Baron Returns), and Havanna, csak oda (Havana, One Way).
The workshop’s theme revolves around everyday conflicts.
"During the workshop, we’ll go through the creative process from the initial idea for a script to pre-production, so it’s essentially a crash course. How much emphasis we put on each stage and how much time we spend on them will be decided together, based on the participants' needs and interests. My plan is to start with everyday conflicts that we genuinely know. You could say that the first steps of fictional filmmaking will be rooted in reality, in what is familiar and recognizable—much like the approach to creating a documentary. We’ll look for conflicts where the tensions between people don’t arise from malice or ill will, but rather from relatively pure and well-meaning intentions that nonetheless drive them up the wall with one another."
The workshop is open to beginner and aspiring actors, theater and film directors, cinematographers, screenwriters, playwrights/dramaturgs, and other students or early-career professionals in fields related to theater and film (editors, sound engineers, etc.) studying or working at universities and workshops in Transylvania.
The collaborative sessions will take place from November 4–6 at the University of Arts in Târgu Mureș.
Applications and inquiries can be sent to elod.nemeth@alternativeiff.ro by November 1.
