Mia, an American war photographer, wakes up in an Istanbul apartment after being found unconscious at the scene of a massacre. Although she knows that something happened to her, she cannot remember anything. As her relationship with Derya seems to rekindle, Mia’s mother arrives from California, and the three women try to piece together, from fragments of images, what might have happened to her.
The play by American playwright Mona Mansour revolves around personal trauma, the ethics of war reporting, and the responsibility of seeing: what does it mean to “witness” suffering, and what is the price paid by those who make the cruelties of war visible?
War affects and unsettles everyone, whether near or far.
