Tamás Patrovits: What is the difference between animated film and experimental animation?

Venue: University of Arts.
An animated film can be made not only in the traditional way, with the script, storyboard, character and visual design planned out in advance, but also by making use of completely different inspiration and circumstances. Since animation is a borderline genre, the point of departure can be an etching, a linocut, a painting, a collage, or, in the case of musical works, an exciting jazz étude.
The possible approaches are limitless.
The masterclass explores this topic with several examples and practical instructions. The aim is to encourage young talents to experiment and expand the boundaries of their own creative practice. A stop-motion table will also be set up at the masterclass, where an experimental ‘under-camera’ scene will be created live.
The masterclass will
be led by Tamás Patrovits, who encourages young talents keen on experimenting to
think of collage as a structural force in creating both the visual universe as
well as the musical and audio background. By rethinking the technique of
collage, we can gain new perspectives alternative to the increasingly
commercialised tendencies of the film industry and visual culture.
