In an unspecified future, unidentified causes have led to the collapse of society, depriving it of all privileges (there is no longer electricity or water). The most visible effect on people is a kind of state of catalepsy: in every family unit there is a member who suffers from it; while many others decided to take their own lives. A brother and sister in their thirties wander the ruins, dressed as clowns, their only clothing remaining, dragging a shopping cart full of animation gear. Before the catastrophe they were entertainers for children's parties. The goal of the two brothers is to reach the sea, which seems to have healing effects. Along the way they try to bring the few survivors a glimmer of joy in exchange for something to eat.
